Residents of Grants Pen, St. Andrew are being urged not to speculate about the cause of the flare up in violence, which resulted in the deaths of four people on the weekend.

Member of Parliament for North East St. Andrew, Delroy Chuck, says the shootings have come as a surprise, as the area has been calm in recent time.

Mr. Chuck believes some of the perpetrators are from outside the community.

With the police now maintaining a presence in the area and conducting their investigation, the MP said the community should remain calm.

"I hope that the perpetrators or those who are encouraging it will, you know, cease and desist, and with the police presence, I'm sure that they will get better information and more importantly, stop various innuendos and speculation as to how this emerged. This is a criminal matter. Let us leave it to the police to gather the information, do the investigation, and charge whoever should be charged," he asserted.

Shane Brooks, 45, and Gawayne Harvey were shot dead at a work site at Shortwood Lane on Sunday afternoon by men travelling in a Toyota Axio motor car.

A third man died in hospital after he was pierced in the left eye by steel while trying to escape the bullets.

Four of the suspects were nabbed following a chase, and an illegal gun was seized.

Grants Pen has been tense since Saturday's fatal shooting of the brother of an entertainer.
