Multi-agency approach being used in relocation of Cooper's Pen settlers to Hague

Several state agencies have joined forces to relocate all illegal settlers in Coopers Pen Trelawny by the November 30 deadline.

Some buildings on the privately owned property were demolished in August as part of an effort to remove the illegal settlers. 

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development Arlene Williams says the property owner's lawyer wrote to the ministry to have the land cleared by the deadline. 

Miss Williams told Radio Jamaica News on Saturday that the government has identified lands in Hague for the relocation.

"We are coming back as early as next week, with the Social Development, Commission and those entities, just to take your information, because what we're gonna do is use a differentiated approach in the assistance that we will give to you," she explained.

She highlighted the fact that the lands identified for the resettlement at Hague is in close proximity to where the residents have been living at Cooper's Pen, but she stressed that "nothing is coming free."

Accordingly, they will be required to pay for the sub-divided lots.
