A joint operation conducted by Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) crews and the security forces in Negril, Westmoreland, has uncovered several instances of electricity theft. During a five-hour operation along the Norman Manley Boulevard, the teams investigated an abandoned 50-room hotel, which was occupied by squatters. Multiple illegal connections were removed from the site.
During the operation, which was carried out last Thursday, 10 beach front shops and a restaurant in the area were found to have various types of illegal connections. Two persons were arrested for the illegal abstraction of electricity, with three others being served summonses.
In the nearby community of White Hall, 80 throw-ups were removed from locations close to the main road. The wires, which were several meters long, were attached to a drainage canal and served up to 120 households.
