The Andrew Holness administration has sought to shed light on the remuneration package of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority [NaRRA].
Radio Jamaica News, following an Access to Information request, obtained documents that stated that the NaRRA CEO would be earning between 35 and 45 million dollars per annum.
In a statement on Friday evening, Information Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon stated that Ambassador Antony Anderson is being paid a basic salary of $40 million.
Dr Morris Dixon says, as part of the benefits of the CEO's package, Ambassador Anderson has also been assigned a motor vehicle and 25% gratuity, subject to performance.
The Information Minister says the remuneration was determined in relation to the requirements of the office and the mandate of the entity.
She added that the remuneration established for the CEO of NaRRA is closely aligned with that of the chief executives of Jamaica's larger public bodies such as the National Housing Trust and the Port Authority of Jamaica.
According to her, those compensation packages take into consideration the scale, complexity and responsibilities associated with the position.
Dr Morris Dixon says the Government intends to hold the CEO of NaRRA accountable and the salary reflects the expected performance of the holder of that office.
NaRRA was established to lead and coordinate a major national reconstruction and resilience programme following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
Dr Morris Dixon reiterates that its mandate involves the implementation of significant infrastructure projects, coordination across multiple government entities, engagement with international development partners, and the management of complex programmes involving substantial public resources.
As such, she says it is important that remuneration for such positions reflect the responsibilities of the office and is sufficiently competitive to attract suitably qualified and experienced professionals.
