As part of the pension reform process, the age of
retirement for civil servants could be extended.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information Faith Innerarity said in keeping with world wide trends, the government is looking at extending the time civil servants stay on the job.
"The objective therefore, is to look at the age policy under the public sector reform system. This is within the framework of an aging population," she said.
At present, the age of retirement for different categories of public sector workers varies, with most workers retiring at 60 years old.
Judges retire at age 70.
Mrs Innerarity said a recommendation for a new retirement age has not yet been put forward.
