NHT to sell controversial Outameni property in Trelawny

Ten months after controversy erupted over its acquisition by the National Housing Trust (NHT) a decision has been made to sell the Outameni property in Trelawny. The Board of  the NHT agreed to the sale at a meeting last week.

In April, Dr. Carlton Davis, Chairman of  the Housing Trust,  indicated that the entity was considering leasing or divesting Outameni.

In his latest comment on the issue, Dr. Davis told RJR News, on Thursday, that the property could be advertised for sale as early as this weekend.

"We met last Thursday and agreed that we should advertise the property for sale, in the first instance, so that is being prepared," he revealed.

He said bids will be accepted from local and overseas investors.

The NHT was rocked late last year by controversy over the purchase of  the Orange Grove lands. Various groups described the decision to purchase the property as a significant departure from the core business of  the National Housing Trust.
