Nomination Day activities end

Nomination Day activities have ended.

Candidates from 228 divisions, representing the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People's National Party (PNP) as well as independent candidates, have been nominated for the November 28 Local Government election.
  
Nomination proceedings began at 10:00 a.m. and ended at 2:00 p.m.

"Reports so far have indicated that both major political parties nominated a full slate - 228 councillors for the 228 divisions and one each for the municipality of Portmore," outlined Director of Elections Orrette Fisher. 

Mr. Fisher said from preliminary reports, 32 independent candidates were nominated.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) have reported that nomination proceedings went smoothly.
