The National Water Commission (NWC) says it has launched an internal investigation into circumstances which led to the discovery of the body of six-year-old Oshane Banton on the compound of one of its sewage plants.
Oshane's body was found at the sewage plant in Lionel Town, Clarendon, on Saturday.
The police are awaiting a post mortem.
"The National Water Commission is aware of the extremely unfortunate and tragic incident involving the death of Oshane Banton. We are doing our own internal investigation. Additionally, we look forward to cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigations," NWC's Corporate Public Relations Manager Andrew Canon, told Radio Jamaica News.
According to police reports, Oshane's mother left him at home in the care of his grandmother.
His mother reportedly returned about 3:30 p.m. and discovered that her son was missing.
A missing person's report was made and a search undertaken involving the police and the community.
