NWC says J$200-million being claimed in losses due to major roadworks

Details have been given about the losses being claimed by the National Water Commission (NWC),  due to major roadworks in the Corporate Area.

NWC President Mark Barnett, has confirmed that the figure so far is over $200-million.

The NWC indicated several weeks ago that it was seeking compensation from the National Works Agency (NWA),for losses it suffered because of  damage to its infrastructure.

Barnett states that the issue is not yet in court, but the losses have been quantified, and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), has now become a part of  the proceedings.

“It’s not a suite, it’s a claim, we haven’t filed a suite yet. First you file a claim on the contract procedure and then if there is nothing then you will file a suite thereafter. Our initial submission was to the NWA but we have been directed that that should go directly to CHEC. ….” said Barnett who added that the amount claimed is expected to increase.

He also said that he is expecting cooperation from the entities in settling the claim for losses.
