Jamaica will soon have an Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Minister of Labour and Social Security, Derrick Kellier, says the Government will fast track passage of the legislation in Parliament, once the review of the draft Bill, which is with the Chief Parliamentary Counsel, is completed.
Mr. Kellier says passage of the Bill will result in improvements in workplace safety and health.
Although the Factories Act provides some provisions for workplace safety Mr. Kellier says there is need for additional legislation in the wake of new and innovative production systems and technologies.
