Opposition Spokesperson on Justice Donna Scott Mottley says the court injunction halting the removal of political signs by the St. James Municipal Corporation is a win for justice.

The Supreme Court granted an injunction blocking the St. James Municipal Corporation from removing election campaign signs belonging to opposition People's National Party representatives.

The affected candidates brought the court action challenging the authority of the Municipal Corporation to remove the signs.

Senator Scott Mottley says no public authority should be able to have unchecked powers to negatively affect the voice of the political opposition.

"This ruling upholds the principles of fairness, freedom of expression and the rule of law. The People's National Party will continue to challenge the abuse of state power wherever it appears. No public authority has a right to suppress legitimate political participation and no Jamaican should fear political victimisation," she said.
