Peter Abrahams, the highly acclaimed journalist and author, is dead. The 97-year old-died at his St. Andrew home on Wednesday morning.
The police have not yet determined the cause of his death.
Mr. Abrahams, who was born in South Africa, settled in Jamaica in 1955, after spending more than a decade in Europe.
He worked with several media entities in Jamaica, including Public Opinion newspaper, The Daily News, Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) and Radio Jamaica.
At Radio Jamaica, he served at one time as Chairman of the Board, and for many years as a respected commentator on public affairs.
Gary Allen, CEO of the RJR Group and close friend of Mr. Abrahams, remembered him as a man committed to Jamaica, who gave back not only through his incisive commentary, but also through his general willingness motivate others.
