Pilot phase for restructuring Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre complete

The Transport Authority has completed the pilot phase of the re-purposing of  Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre.

Changes were made on May 25 to the routes of several rural stage carriage buses in the Corporate Area in an effort to reduce congestion within the vicinity of the Transport Centre.

Buses coming from Cross Roads, downtown Kingston and Papine and returning to St. Catherine now use the lower level of the Transport Centre.

A news release from Willard Hylton, Managing Director of the Transport Authority, said the restructuring was undertaken in phases to ensure adequate consultation, efficient communication and to give commuters and bus operators adequate time to adjust.

The Transport Authority anticipated an increased volume of traffic on the lower level of the Transport Centre.

However, this was managed through the use of signage, regular meetings, and assistance from on-site Transport Authority representatives.
