PM announces new curfew hours

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced a new all-island daily curfew of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., starting Wednesday, April 22, and ending on Wednesday, May 6. 
 
Businesses will open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., so residents get two hours at either end of the curfew in which to travel.
 
Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) and public passenger vehicles (PPVs) are allowed to be on the road from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., but they should not transport any passenger from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. as this is the time allotted for them to travel to work and back home.  
 
Work hours are now from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
 
Supermarkets, pharmacies and corner shops should close at 5:00 p.m.
 
Markets will open Monday to Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
 
The lockdown in St. Catherine has been extended for a further seven days. However, residents will now be permitted to move about from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on shopping days. The new shopping days are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
 
The alphabetic classification of these residents for shopping has been removed. 
  
Remittance agencies, banks, post offices and gas stations can open on shopping days in that parish. 
 
 
Updated measures 
 
The wearing of masks has now been made mandatory for persons in all public places.
 
The minimum social distancing space is now six feet, an adjustment from the previous three feet.
 
Work-from-home and stay-at-home orders have been extended for a further 14 days. 
 
The prohibition on public gatherings has also been extended for a further 14 days. No more than 10 people should gather. 
  
Educational institutions are to remain closed until May 31.
