Prime Minister and JLP leader Dr. Andrew Holness
Prime Minister and leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, Dr. Andrew Holness, says his party will be victorious at the polls if the electorate rely less on emotions and focus more on the achievements of his administration.
Dr. Holness expressed the view on Monday afternoon while speaking with journalists following his nomination.
"When you go into any campaign, you prepare to win, you prepare to lose. Right now we have worked very hard. There's no question about that. The PNP cannot contest us on performance. So if you go by the logic that Jamaicans are logical people, reasonable people and they vote on performance, then you know what the outcome is," he argued.
But Dr. Holness also admitted that emotions are a factor in the outcome of an election.
"It's how people feel and what people expect to come. And even based upon expectations, you can't pull your expectations out of the air and out of promises. You have to also base your expectations on what the government has done, what they have achieved. And again, if you go by logic and even if you pair that with your emotions, you must conclude that this government has done very well. You can't compare us to perfection. You have to compare us to what other political parties have done and what other governments have done. And if you do that comparison, the Jamaica Labour Party should be the next government of Jamaica on the 3rd of September," he maintained.
The Jamaica Labour Party said all 63 of its candidates were nominated on Monday.
