PNP accuses gov't of deflecting blame for societal ills

PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell

The parliamentary opposition is accusing the Andrew Holness-led administration of seeking to deflect blame for the poor state of the economy.

The ruling Jamaica Labour Party has accused the opposition of embracing criminality for its refusal to support the extension of States of Public Emergency.

The JLP has also accused the People's National Party of ignoring the successes of the Holness administration.

But speaking at a mass meeting in East Portland on Sunday night, PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell said the government must admit that the country is facing an economic crisis and a breakdown in law and order.

"Based on this government, you mustn't blame them for everything weh a gwaan. Even though they have been in power for nine years, everything that is wrong, they say don't blame us. After giving themselves 300% increase in salary, them seh don't blame us for the bad roads...for the high crime...high cost of living...education crisis...for government corruption," he contended.

Attorney Isat Buchanan was on Sunday night introduced as the party's candidate to challenge the JLP's Ann-Marie Vaz in the next election.

Dr. Campbell said the PNP will not allow the JLP to define or question the character of their candidate, and will defend his candidacy against any attack.
