PNP had nothing to do with shooting in Kingston Central, says McGregor

Retired Senior Superintendent of Police Steve McGregor, PNP candidate for the Kingston Central constituency

People's National Party (PNP) candidate for the Kingston Central constituency, retired Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, is rubbishing claims by Member of Parliament Donovan Williams that he and members of his campaign team came under fire on Tuesday night in a politically motivated attack in the constituency.

Mr. Williams said they were shot at while erecting posters in the vicinity of South Camp Road and Tower Street. He called for JLP supporters to remain calm and sure restraint.

But in an interview with Radio Jamaica News on Thursday afternoon, Mr. McGregor accused Mr. Williams of presenting a false narrative about what transpired. The former senior cop claims there is CCTV footage of the incident.

"Well, the incident that took place down by South Side the other night had nothing to do with the People's National Party. I am certain. I have intel that informs me [of] what took place and all the [parties] that were involved know what took place. The MP and his security team knows exactly what took place down there. The police also knows. And my people from in the area are aware of what took place," claimed the MP aspirant, who reiterated that the PNP had nothing to do with the incident.

The PNP candidate also claimed that his posters were destroyed in sections of the constituency on Thursday.

He said he has reported the matter to the head of the Kingston Central Police Superintendent Beresford Williams.
