The Opposition Peoples National Party [PNP] is moving to address safety concerns on motorcades for the remainder of the campaign leading up to the February 26 local government election.
This follows Sunday's incident which claimed the life of 15 year-old Lamar Grey of Golf in Gregory Park.
Lamar died after falling from a bus in a PNP motorcade in Portmore, St Catherine.
PNP General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell, speaking Monday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said the party will be having marshals on buses to ensure safety measures are observed.
He disclosed that the PNP was most likely not going to be engaging in motorcades for the rest of the campaign (but) clarified that if it does have any more motorcade a marshal will be assigned to each vehicle, "to bring some order to what is going on."
"We consider these situations very unfortunate and unacceptable, and we do not want to see any recurrence, in the campaign period or otherwise," he said.
Similarly, Robert Morgan, Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party's Public Relations Committee, has conceded that more stringent measures should be implemented to dissuade supporters from engaging in reckless behaviour in political motorcades, "because the loss of a life is unacceptable."
"This is something that we're going to take very seriously; more serious than we did before."
"There have been gaps; we have not done what we are supposed to do in some instances. We have tried but I think we need to work harder," he pledged.
