Dr. Angela Brown Burke

The parliamentary opposition has added its voice to the controversy surrounding the recent attacks on some members of the media.
People's National Party chairperson Dr. Angela Brown Burke says the situation is setting a bad precedent in the country.
Dr. Brown Burke, who condemned the attack, said the information being purported could endanger the lives of those mentioned.
"It is almost as if you are fingering individuals, and you are saying somethings about them that could incite others to make it difficult for them to do their jobs, so we have to set a standard for how we deal with things like this. The media doesn't always say things about us that we like, opinions differ. There are going to be times when we are going to have to call the media out on what they have said, or how they have interpreted a particular story or something that they have done. That is in the normal and cut and thrust business in which we are. But we certainly condemn any attempt at identifying individuals and doing it in a way that calls attention to them, that could set them up," she said.
The video at the centre of the controversy claims that the Gleaner company consistently places the Jamaica Labour Party government in a bad light and favours the opposition PNP.
There have also been accusations from the PNP about media houses being aligned to the Jamaica Labour Party.
