PNP wants gov't to expedite digitisation of court services

By Racquel Porter

The opposition People's National Party (PNP) is calling for the government to allocate all necessary resources to expedite the digital transformation of court services.

The PNP has welcomed a recent announcement by Chief Justice Bryan Sykes of plans to revolutionise the operations of the courts within the next five years.

Opposition Spokesperson on Justice and Information Senator Donna Scott Mottley said the move towards electronic filing and online communication is expected to lead to efficiency and convenience, benefitting both attorneys and citizens.

Senator Scott Mottley's call for swift action is underscored by a recent court case in which a ruling was delayed for eight years due to the unavailability of digital audio recording data.

The Opposition Spokesperson on Justice contends that the implementation of the proposed digital transformation is critical to overcoming cynicism resulting from such failures.
