The police are viewing footage related to Friday's mob killing of a man in Mandeville with a view to determining whether evidence garnered from that exercise might assist them in making arrests in the matter.

This was revealed on Sunday by Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay, head of Constabulary Communications Unit (CCU).

Superintendent Lindsay, speaking on Radio Jamaica's That's a Rap, said the appropriate expertise will be relied on in this exercise.

"They are going to analyse the footage so we are definitely examining the footage to see if we can recognise some of the persons involved," she said.

Reliance on the approptiate expertise to examine the video footage, "because in a sitution like this, nobody is going to come forward to say who they saw or what happened; who were involved," she said.

According to the police, about midday on Friday, Chiefton Campbell was walking on Manchester Road when he was accused of stealing money.

Arising from that, he was set upon and beaten.

The police intervened and took Mr Campbell to hospital for treatment.

He died sometime after 5 o'clock.

Residents of Victoria Town in south Manchester blocked roads leading to the town square Saturday morning to protest the killing of Mr Campbell who was a member of their community.

The residents claimed Mr Campbell was conducting business when he was robbed.

They said the real thieves caused the mob to attack the man they described as a "community icon."
