Several licence plates were removed from defective vehicles in St. Mary on Tuesday morning during an operation conducted by the police and motor vehicle inspectors at the Island Traffic Authority.
Sergeant Christopher Ward, sub-officer in charge of the Highgate Police, says the operation was aimed at ensuring motor vehicles are fit and road-worthy.
He said the police have heightening their presence to reduce the number of road fatalities, which he noted are caused by speeding but also defective vehicles.
Sergeant Ward said the police operation is also aimed at traffic management control to mitigate against congestion and lengthy delays in the town.
