The St. Ann police say they are expecting an incident-free day for Thursday's nomination of candidates for the local government election.
Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, Commanding Officer for the Division, on Tuesday convened a meeting of all JLP and PNP candidates as well as one independent vying for the 16 divisions.
SSP Powell said the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of the Electoral Office of Jamaica, was used to emphasize the code of conduct.
"I spoke with them around expectations as it relates to nomination... So the general timing, route and what will happen after the nomination was outlined. I also went into the issue of the campaign activities and used basically the laws that are at our disposal to guide the meeting. So, heavily we relied on the Representation of the People's Act, Public Order Act, and all those other laws that treat with free and fair election," he explained.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake, who is in charge of the strategic operations portfolio with direct responsibility for planning security for elections, told Radio Jamaica News that all plans are fully in place for monitoring of activities across Jamaica.
