Police kill one suspect in Wednesday night shooting of two cops in Montego Bay

Radio Jamaica News has been informed that the police are now conducting a major operation in Salt Spring, St James, in search of the gunmen behind last night's shooting, in which two policemen were wounded along Church Street in Montego Bay.

It's understood that one suspect in that incident was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in the continuing operation to apprehend them.

Radio Jamaica News was informed that the cops seized an illegal gun and bloody clothing at the scene.

The operation was launched after two policemen were shot and wounded while attempting to foil a robbery at a supermarket on Church Street in Montego Bay.

It was reported that, about 9:30 members of the St James Beat Officer Patrol Division intercepted armed men robbing the supermarket.

According to the police, the robbers, carrying rifles and handguns, engaged the cops in a shoot-out and two members of the team were shot in the exchange.

One officer was shot in the foot, while the other sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder. They were rushed to hospital for treatment.

The gunmen escaped.

That confrontation came 24 hours after another supermarket in Montego Bay was targeted by gunmen on Monday night, raising fears of a surge in robberies targeting businesses in the western Jamaica city.
