Police probing deadly shooting at Negril hotel

The Westmoreland police have launched a manhunt for those behind Friday's deadly attack on guests at a wedding in Negril.

A woman was shot dead in the incident while two other persons were wounded.

The deceased is 28 year-old Rushena Senior, a data entry clerk of Kingsvale, Hanover.

Two photographers were also wounded when gunmen opened fire at the wedding's bridal party at Shields Hotel.

The police report that, about 6:15 p.m., Ms Senior was among the bridal party being photographed when armed men travelling on a motorcycle gained access to a neighbouring beachfront property and opened fire on the wedding party through a picket fence.

The incident reportedly occurred in full view of guests, including tourists, at the resort.

Those wounded were rushed to hospital where Ms Senior was pronounced dead.

In response to the shooting, Richard Wallace, a hotelier and immediate past president of the Negril Chamber of Commerce, has asserted that the incident will hurt the image of the resort town.

He noted that the incident emerged from a domestic dispute, and in that regard, is maintaining that the resort town is safe for visitors.
