A search is on to locate the next of kin for the two year old girl who was found beside her dead mother in bushes in Alley, Clarendon on Tuesday morning.
The body of 32 year old Notoya Ricketts was found by residents about 8 o'clock.
It had bullet wounds.
The two year old, who was not harmed, was taken to hospital.
Children's Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison has said her office as well as the Child Protection and Family Services Agency are on standby to intervene.
"The police have to advise as to whether or not there are any next of kin to take the child, so that's usually a fist step. If the information from them is that there is no such person, then the state resources will kick in," she told RJR News.
Miss Ricketts was last seen alive on Monday morning when she went to tend to her animals.
