A police constable on interdiction was gunned down on Tuesday night in Breezy Hill, Comfort district, Manchester.
He has been identified as Mario Thomas, also known as Matt. He was assigned to a team in Kingston.
It's reported that about 10:44 p.m., Constable Thomas was among several customers at a bar in Breezy Hill when a man entered, dressed in a black pull over.
The policeman ran from the bar and was pursued by the man in the direction of Webbers district; then several explosions were heard.
The police were called and found three spent casings along the road in front of the bar.
One bullet hole was also observed in a vehicle belonging to Constable Thomas.
The area was searched, but the policeman was not seen.
A resident of the area stumbled upon his body about 6 o'clock Wednesday morning.
Constable Thomas' distraught mother, Dallary Senior Stephens, said her son has been under investigation in relation to a shooting in Porus.
She said she last spoke with her son at 6:59 p.m. on Tuesday when she urged him come home for dinner. But when she tried calling him again several times later that night, there was no answer.
Mrs. Stephens said there had been several attempts on his life since he opened a bar.
