The opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is reporting that it has made progress in finding candidates for the Local Government election.
In the central parish of St. Catherine, the party says all members in the parish council will be up for re-election.

“It is safe for us to say that we are 95% ready as it relates to persons we have for the St. Catherine parish council….” said Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Andrew Wheatley.
Meanwhile, the ruling People's National Party (PNP) says it should have all its candidates in the southern parish of St Elizabeth in place in the coming weeks.
In the latest selection exercise on Saturday, Councilor for the Black River Division and Deputy Mayor Mordant Mitchell failed in his bid for a third term to newcomer Dwight Salmon.
On Sunday, PNP delegates in the Pedro Plains Division will be voting to select their candidate. Businessman Lenroy Buchanan will be going up against supervisor Donavan Williams.
Delegates in the Southfield Division are expected to either ratify of reject former councilor for the Myersville Division Winston Sinclair.
Chairman of PNP’s Region 5, Wentworth Skeffery, told RJR News that of the 30 parish council divisions in the region which comprises Manchester and St. Elizabeth, eight vacancies are left to be filled.
The selection process should be completed by August 17.
Last week, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller hinted that Local Government Elections could be held early next year.
