Port Antonio mayor halts railway removal

     Several workers, reportedly contracted by the Jamaica Railway Corporation, JRC were prevented from removing an old railway turntable by Mayor of Port Antonio Floyd Patterson with the assistance of the police, Saturday morning.

   Sections of the railway have been removed in the areas of Buff Bay, Orange Bay and Passley Gardens over the last few months for use in the  scrap metal trade. 

     Men reportedly turned up with a tractor to remove the old railway turntable located at Boundbrook along with the rails and a cart in the area.

     As news spread of the removal, several persons including the police, Mayor Floyd Patterson and Councilor Wayne McKenzie converged at the scene and sought to stop the action.
