A report from RJR's Dwayne Anderson; Director of Elections Glasspole Brown
The two candidates for the April 4 by-election in Portland Eastern have been nominated.
The Jamaica Labour Party's Ann-Marie Vaz was nominated some time after 11 o'clock, while the People's National Party's Damion Crawford was nominated shortly after 10 o'clock at the Port Antonio Courthouse.
Mr. Crawford was accompanied by PNP leader Dr. Peter Phillips as well as the PNP's previous Portland Eastern caretaker Andrea Moore.
Mrs Vaz was accompanied by her husband Daryl Vaz and JLP leader and Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Both candidates brought their respective documents and paid the nomination fee of $15,000.
In an interview with RJR News following his nomination, Mr. Crawford said he would not apologise for the comment he made about his opponent Ann Marie Vaz, suggesting that the furthest she could achieve is being the wife of Daryl Vaz.
In the meantime, Director of Elections Glasspole Brown said arrangements are being made for persons with disabilities to have access to polling stations to cast their ballots in the Portland Eastern by-election. He said close to 90 per cent of the polling stations will be situated on the ground floor.
