Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has issued a note of caution concerning the current wage negotiations for public sector workers.
Dr. Holness, addressing a parish meeting of the governing Jamaica Labour Party in St. Thomas on Saturday night, urged Jamaicans not to fall victim to the many promises being made by the People's National Party.
He said Jamaicans should take note that for the last fifty years successive governments have been financing the country's development via debt.
The JLP Leader said this has led to many problems, leaving the country vulnerable, and exposed to changes in the global economy.
He added that borrowing and not using money wisely makes the problem much worse, as bad investments will lead to major challenges.
Dr. Holness said the JLP administration inherited a debt of around 130 percent of GDP when it came to office in 2016, but that the economy has seen major improvements since then.
