RJR News understands that Professor Gordon Shirley, Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, is to take up the top post at the Port Authority of Jamaica. He will replace long serving President and Chief Executive Officer, Noel Hylton, who is set to demit office in November.
According to information reaching RJR News, Professor Shirley will be seconded from the UWI. However, details on his tenure at the Port Authority have not been finalised. Professor Shirley is expected to take up duties within the next three months.
News of the appointment comes just weeks after Professor Shirley was named Chairman of the National Task Force, which will oversee the implementation of crucial areas of the Logistics Hub initiative.
The Port Authority of Jamaica is the principal maritime agency responsible for the regulation and development of Jamaica's port and shipping industry.
It owns and controls the Kingston Transshipment Port, the Port of Montego Bay and the cruise shipping terminals at Ocho Rios and Port Antonio.
