PSOJ President calls for reform of labour laws

The President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica [PSOJ] has called for the Government to review the current labour laws which he says have become challenging for employers.

On Thursday, Opposition Senator Peter Bunting urged the trade unions to challenge the practice of employers offering rolling long term contracts to workers.

According to Senator Bunting the "contract work scheme" has denied workers much needed benefits, including a pension and job security.

But PSOJ President Metry Seaga subsequently told Radio Jamaica News that employers are forced to offer contracts due to the challenges they face, under what he described as outdated labour laws.

He listed some of the major challenges facing employers under the Labour Relations Code.
