Rains affecting roads in northern Jamaica

Overnight rains in sections of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland have left several communities flooded.

In St. Ann, our correspondent is reporting that a house in Scarlett Hall is inundated.

Three others are being threatened by rising water.

The flooding is caused by a gully which runs from Ancrim through the community.

The water has overflowed its banks causing several roads to be washed out.

The situation is reportedly similar in the lower section of Cardiff Hall.

Flooding there has forced the closure of the Hoombury Primary and Discovery Bay All Age Schools.

In the meantime, the police have advised that the Fern Gully is impassable.

Motorists are being advised to use the alternative routes from Pimento Walk to Breadnut Hill or through Chalky Hill

And the National Works Agency says several roads in St. Mary are also flooded.

These include the Junction road which has been reduced to single lane access.

The corridor from Aqualtavale to Annotto Bay is now inundated and the roadway from Chovey to Claremont is flooded.

The main road from White Hall to Aqualtavale is also blocked in several sections.

And our Portland correspondent is reporting that the roadway from Windsor to Orange Bay is flooded and is now impassable.

The National works Agency is advising motorists who have to travel towards Port Antonio to use the route from Spring Garden through Chepstowe and School House corner into Hope Bay.
