Gonsalves calls for peace amid rising tensions between China and Taiwan

Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, has added his voice calling for peace in the Taiwan Straits as tensions rise between China and Taiwan.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is one of 12 countries that have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan and do not have official relations with the People's Republic of China.

Dr. Gonsalves said his government continues to support diplomatic relations with Taiwan while at the same time working with mainland China in regional and international institutions where membership is shared.

He pointed out that he was not about to pick a fight with mainland China but was hopeful for an amicable resolution to the ongoing tensions between the two countries.
