Although the amended Dangerous Drugs Act is expected to be signed into law shortly it will take longer for some of the measures under the Bill to become a reality.
On Tuesday, Members of Parliament approved the Bill to reform Jamaica's ganja laws two weeks after it was given the go ahead in the Senate.
National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, says aspects of the Bill such as the regulatory framework for the Cannabis Licensing Authority will take some time to be established.
“Some measures can come into play quickly, the decimalization of small quantities and other elements - but the regulated aspects will take a few months before they can be effective. One thing I do know, the mandate from all the ministers involved in appointing members to the Cannabis Licensing Authority is that they move as quickly and as prudently as possible,” he said.
