The families of several inmates at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston are airing their grouses after the facility reportedly barred visitation.

The relatives say they have made several attempts to visit the inmates but have been shot down by those overseeing the facility.

On Wednesday morning, Radio Jamaica News observed several containers and bags filled with food items heaped onto a table after the crowd at the prison was told that visits were not permitted for the third consecutive week.

A sign displaying, "No food today" was also erected at the visitors' waiting area.

One parent, who described the situation as unconscionable, argued that they could have been informed prior to making their trip to the facility.

"Dem have wi phone number insider here, seh supm pon di radio or something nuh; send a text or something," she suggested.

The woman complained that she was now in debt after spending her last funds on food for her son, which he could not get.

Another parent said she was told that they would be allowed visitation the third Wednesday of November.

They called for the management at the facility to be replaced.

Radio Jamaica News asked for a response to the issue and was told that a representative of the facility would speak shortly, but that did not materialise.
