Relatives of the US citizen who was shot and killed by a gunman during a robbery in Savanna-la-mar in the western parish of Westmoreland, are expected to arrive in the island this week.
A police source says, close relatives of the man have been informed of his death, however his identity has not yet been released.
Reports are that the American, who was vacationing at a villa in the tourist resort town of Negril in the parish was in a haberdashery store in the parish capital when a gunman held customers and the proprietor at gunpoint.
It is reported, that the gunman demanded that the American hand over his cell phone, and when his demand was not met, a struggle developed between them. The gunman pushed the American to the ground and shot him.
When the police arrived on the scene, the gunman engaged them in a shoot out and he was shot dead.
A 9mm glock pistol was found at the scene.
Meanwhile, a female, who was in the store during the robbery, was also shot in the abdomen by the gunman. She remains in stable condition in hospital.
