By Kimone Witter

Repair work has started on the attic at the Grand Bahia Principe hotel in St. Ann which was the scene of a fire Monday afternoon.

Director of internal organization and corporate social responsibility, Fabian Brown, says the incident did not affect operations at the resort.

The hotel presently has more than 70 per cent occupancy.

Monday's fire is the second at the hotel this month.

In the latest incident, sometime after 5 p.m., repair work was being done in the attic on the sixth floor, when the fire broke out.

Hotel personnel reportedly contained the blaze. Three units from the St. Ann Fire department responded and conducted cooling down operations.

On January 4, the hotel launched an investigation after fire in one of its 10 restaurants resulted in damage valued about US$1 million.

Footage of that incident showed several windows at the hotel being blown out.

Two staff members were injured.
