Long awaited repairs have commenced on the road from
Papine to Hardware Gap in St. Andrew following years of devastation due to
natural disasters.
The National Works Agency (NWA) is in the process of spending $240 million to construct retaining walls.
The exercise is expected to be completed by April next year.
In addition, 14 sections along the 23 kilometre stretch of road are being rehabilitated.
The money is coming from the fuel cess.
NWA Spokesman, Stephen Shaw, says the road sustained severe damage during past disasters including Tropical Storm Gustav last year.
Several sections were reduced to single lane.
Mr. Shaw says due to construction activities some parts of the road will be further reduced to single lane between seven o'clock in the morning and six o'clock in the evening.
