Residents of Barton hill district and neighbouring communities in North West St. Elizabeth on Monday morning gathered in their numbers protesting what they say is the lack of proper roads and water in the constituency.
The residents, who gathered in Newton square sometime after 10 a.m., say the issues have persisted for some 25 years.
One resident, Lloyd Henry, blasted Member of Parliament J.C. Hutchinson for making empty promises.
"Mr. Hutchie, we asking for water. A years now - 25 years no water. We asking for road... All him telling we 'bout [is] budget: 'When budget, I will do this; when budget, I will do that.' True we cyah get to Mr. Andrew Holness. Mr. Andrew, mi want you tek a deep look pon waah gwaan and send one auditor to wi," he demanded.
Another resident said those living in the constituency have been forced to find alternative means to source potable water, purchasing the commodity for up to $9,000 to fill several drums.
Furthermore, she said Mr. Hutchinson has been missing in action.
"Mr. J.C. [Hutchinson], when time him win, him only come say thanks wid him hand inna di air - nothing more. Over five year or six year now mi nuh si Mr. Hutchinson. The last election not even thanks him never come tell wi. Wi need water!" the woman exclaimed.
But the Member of Parliament has refuted the claims by residents that he has not been working in the constituency.
He maintained that he has kept residents abreast of works being carried out in the constituency.
"They are well aware that we have done for the last few years a section for every year, and there is just one section that is left under the farm roads programme, which is supposed to be coming out anytime now.
As it relates to water, Mr. Hutchinson said procurement issues have delayed the plan to supply water to the affected communities, but he hopes the plan can be impemented this year.
