Residents of Hibernia district in Manchester are reeling from a gun attack in their community Wednesday night in which a man was killed and two other people shot and wounded.

Evon Gibson, a labourer, was killed at his house and two other occupants shot in the attack.

When Radio Jamaica News visited the area on Thursday, residents were still trying to come to grips with the incident which they say is unusual for their community.

"Mi frighten fi see all gunshot buss all up yah suh, man get dead yah suh, weh nuh supposed to happen.... Yah suh a peaceful lane, everybody know one another yah suh. We live like bredda and sistah yah suh," said one community member, as another echoed that "the community nuh used to this".

Avril Gibson, the father of the deceased, told Radio Jamaica News that since hearing of his son's demise he has been weak.

Omar Miller, Councillor for the Craighead Division, said he will be providing support to the community.

"I know this gentleman. He is community man, decent law-abiding citizen, hard worker. We went to school together, and believe you me, I am feeling it right now because he should not have gone this way. I will continue to support the family at this time and the community," he said.
