Normal operations should resume Tuesday at Registrar General's Department locations across Jamaica, pending the outcome of discussions between their union and the Ministry of Finance.

The workers stayed off the job today over several issues including the realignment in their pay structure as well as monies owed to them under an employee incentive programme for the period 2016-2019.

Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) President O'Neil Grant met with the workers this afternoon.

Mr. Grant said a letter will be sent to the Ministry of Finance outlining the grouses expressed by the workers.

He said the workers have requested an update by next Monday.

Today's industrial action at the Registrar General Department resulted in a major disruption in operations.

The RGD operates through a network of 10 offices in major towns across the island.

Charlton McFarlane, Chief Executive Officer of the RGD, said only Mandeville and May Pen offices had their full complement of staff today, while the offices in Port Antonio, St. Ann's Bay and Savanna-la-Mar did not open to the public.

There was limited staff turnout at the Montego Bay, Kingston and Twickenham Park locations.

Mr. McFarlane said births went unregistered and weddings that were set for today had to be rescheduled.

"Persons who would have wanted to register the deaths of their loved ones and obtain burial orders, those would have been impacted as well. So the impact is one that is significant based on the level of the sickout," he admitted.
