Several persons who are employed to the Ritz Carlton Hotel
in Montego Bay, St. James Wednesday protested
outside the hotel gates.
The workers claim they turned up for work on Wednesday morning and were presented with redundancy letters, a move which they said was unprofessional.
The workers added that with the high level training they received at the five star property, they are shocked at the manner in which the redundancy exercise is being undertaken.
In the meantime, in a surprising move, Rose Hall Resort LP, owner of The Ritz-Carlton, said it was stunned to learn that, without its knowledge or consent, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company of Jamaica, which was under contract to operate the hotel for Rose Hall, fired a significant number of employees.
President of Rose Hall Developments and a member of the general partner of the hotel, Michele Rollins, said they share the anger and dismay of the employees who were fired.
She said Ritz-Carlton's action comes just days before Rose Hall anticipates receiving a ruling from the Jamaican courts, on the eviction of the Ritz-Carlton from the Rose Hall property.
