Scores of students and commuters were stranded Monday morning after protesters blocked the Ramble main road in Hanover.

The road is the main thoroughfare between Montego Bay, St. James and Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

Residents and taxi operators used down trees and old appliances to block the roadway.

They say they are frustrated with the poor road conditions and are tired of promises by their elected representatives.

"Wi a talk bout wi health and wi a talk bout wah can tek place, yuh know. Robbery and all kind a dem ting deh can gwaan 'cau wi nah nuh road. And a years wi a talk bout it and a pure play around ting.... But right yah now, wi nuh inna nuh joke ting. You see if [the roadblock] clear today, tonight it a block again. The National Works Agency (NWA) says $17 million has been allocated to repair the Shettlewood to Maxfield stretch of roadway which includes Ramble.

Janel Ricketts, Community Relations Officer for the NWA's Western Region, says the contractor has been mobilised to get the work started today.

The scope of work will include patching and drainage construction.
