Rushane Barnett, who was arrested following the killing of a woman and her four children in Cocoa Piece in New Road, Clarendon last month, pleaded guilty to five counts of murder when he appeared before the Home Circuit Court on Thursday.
Responding to Justice Leighton Pusey, Mr. Barnett said he was not forced to plea guilty.
Mr. Barnett's case was heard in the Home Circuit Court via a voluntary bill of indictment which allows for his case to bypass a parish court hearing.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has served a notice of death penalty on him.
