Secret Pakistani arms sales to the US helped to facilitate a controversial bailout from the International Monetary Fund earlier this year, as revealed by an online American non-profit news organisation, The Intercept, with confirmation from internal Pakistani and American government documents.
The arms sales were made for the purpose of supplying the Ukrainian military, marking Pakistani involvement in a conflict it had faced US pressure to take sides on.
The documents describe munitions sales agreed between the US and Pakistan from the summer of 2022 to this spring. Some of the documents were authenticated by a matching signature of an American brigadier general, to other public documents with his signature.
The weapons deals were brokered by Global Military Products, a controversial arms dealer entangled with less than reputable figures in Ukraine.
The records outlined money trail and talks with US officials, contracts, licensing and requisition documents to buy Pakistani military weapons for Ukraine.
