The police and military are keeping a close watch on sections of Central Village in St. Catherine following a flare-up of gang violence this week.
A 48-hour curfew has been imposed in the area since Wednesday.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Christopher Phillips, head of the Area Five Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the curfew was imposed to prevent reprisal attacks after gunmen fired on and "firebombed" two houses in the community earlier this week.
Acting ACP Phillips said the area is tense following the attacks, adding that the security forces will continue to maintain a strong presence in the area.
The boundaries of the curfew are:
North along an imaginary line running east to west from the range at the National Police College of Jamaica to Windsor Road, in the vicinity of the Prophetess Morris Christian Church;
West along an imaginary line running from Ashtrom Jamaica in the vicinity of the eastbound lane of the Mandela Highway to the range at the police college, and;
East along an imaginary line from Windsor Road, in the vicinity of the Prophetess Morris Christian Church to the Compound taxi stand, in the vicinity of a section of the eastbound lane of the Mandela Highway.
