A severe weather alert will remain in effect for the country until 5 pm on Monday.
According to the Meteorological Service, an area of low pressure continues to influence weather conditions across the central and southwestern Caribbean, including Jamaica.
Satellite imagery and radar reports indicate an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms to the east of Jamaica. These showers and thunderstorms are forecast to drift towards the northwest and impact sections of eastern parishes at first then spread to the remainder of the island.
The Met office says flash flooding is possible in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Fishers and other marine interests are urged to exercise caution as strong winds are likely in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms particularly south and east of the island.
A gradual improvement is expected on Wednesday.Meanwhile a power outage in sections of the Corporate Area has been attributed to the heavy rains.
The outage has affected operations in Cross Roads and along Lyndhurst Road .
