Shaw now set to sign code of conduct

Following a two-week delay, Audley Shaw, one of the two candidates for the leadership of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), is now set to sign the code of conduct for the upcoming election. The document was signed on September 30 by Andrew Holness, the current JLP Leader. Mr. Shaw declined to participate until all issues concerning the delegates’ list were addressed.

The JLP Secretariat on Wednesday reported that the final list was in the process of being completed and would be released to the two candidates upon completion.

Mr. Shaw is slated to sign the election code of conduct next week. “I believe that we can expect to sign early next week. A substantive arrangement between two sides on the list is for the completion, pending of course, the verification of the each constituency list that what has been agreed is in fact has been sent to the electoral office,” said Ed Bartlett, co-chair of the Audley Shaw campaign team.

And as campaigning continues ahead of the November 10 election, the JLP's youth affiliate, Generation 2000, will, on Saturday, hold private consultations with the two leadership candidates. Generation 2000 said its delegates in all 14 parishes will have frank discussions with Mr. Holness and Mr. Shaw on, among other things, their plans for the JLP and Jamaica.

Both candidates will be given time to make a brief presentation with most of the consultation focusing on fielding questions from the delegates. Generation 2000 has 40 delegates who are eligible to vote at the Party’s annual conference.
